Goat Population Sim 2019
I’ve been reading a lot interesting things lately like India’s Green Revolution and how our Earth is getting greener overall. (Desertification is also growing, but I’ll let you figure that one out). Part of the reason for this is the use of chemical fertilizers, some of which are derived from non-renewable resources.
This got me wondering about what happens to a closed system like ours once this runs out. Here’s a simulation of what this may look like. Some notes:
- Green squares are grass. As they grow and contain more energy, they become greener.
- Goats are black squares. As they grow up, they become darker and multiply.
- Let the goat population get up and stabilize, then hit the “Use non-renewable fertilizer” button. This injects fertilizer into the system and the grass grows back much more quickly. Of course, the population then spikes. Watch what happens when the fertilizer runs out.
The graphs at the bottom help you visualize things over time and if you turn off visualization, things will run a lot faster.
